As promised on Blog #2 (already several months ago), this time I’ll talk about Ambrosius as a character. Some people might not like him, some might like Valentine more, but one thing is objectively true: He’s the main character of Goriland (Might seem obvious, but I know some people who thought Valentine was the MC instead). In fact when you check his character’s archive, you can see that he appears on 68 comic pages so far (out of 74). If he is not well defined in my script, the rest wont be either.
I’ll start by answering some questions people have posted on discord and the old/new website:
Why did you change his personality on chapter 3? I liked him more when he was a racist homophobic.
I didn’t change his personality at all. The reason Ambrosius (Amby from now on to save space) changed so much in chapter 3 is because what we saw on chapter 1 was the result of several previous chapters and character developtment, let me explain:
2 years ago I wrote the complete script of Goriland in a .docx archive. It has every single chapter, jokes and plots on it, even the ending (Which is a very dark ending by the way [but kino]).
Basically, the comic’s chapter 1 is not the real chapter 1, it’s actually chapter 5. The reason I changed the order is because chapter 5 had Valentine and several gay shota moments (My fetish #1 at that moment. Right now my fetish #1 is underage twin incest) and even though it’s not the most hilarious chapter in the script, it’s easily the top #5 and the easiest to draw in comparison to the others, so it was good as art practice.
(I like the one on the left more though, not gonna lie)
So basically, Amby was a happy and pure boy on chapter 1 but a lot of horrible stuff happened to him on Chapter 1 “lapageria“(Destruction of Goriland and the death of his dad), Chapter 2 (His horrible and abusive training in the army), Chapter 3 “adagio” (Her grandma’s death and having to live with his grandpa a few weeks later) and Chapter 4 (Bullying) which forced him to become a racist homophobic on Chapter 5 “imago” (“A love story”). [Nevermind the shitty temporary names by the way]
It’s worth mentioning that from the very beginning Goriland was supposed to be a comic with both serious and comedy chapters. In the chapters mentioned above, Chapters 1 and 4 are serious drama (With some jokes every now and then) and Chapters 2, 3 and 5 are focused more on comedy. Chapter 4 (Also known as Chapter 3) is the first serious chapter I made and posted here and most people didn’t like the tone and lack of jokes, so I might just ignore all serious ones in the future and focus on the comedy ones instead. Smh.
In Chapter 3 – Page #16 “Pinochet”, why did Amby try to give away the money he got from selling his possessions like it’s nothing?
This questions was made on Discord by MrFix and I’m ashamed to admit that I responded it wrong due to how sudden it was. I said he didn’t care about the money because he knew he could find another way to get more.
Actually he doesn’t know if he could earn more money but tries to give it to Valentine anyway, because making other people happy is what he likes to do the most (Saving Valentine’s brother from cancer would make Valentine way more happy and would be a better way to spend the money… but Amby doesn’t seem to have great attention span).
The reason he wants to make everybody happy (As seen several times already in the xmas pages) is because he fell for the “Happiness is contagious” meme. By his logic, if the entire country is happy, he will be happy too!
What’s up with the sudden change into emo mode in Chapter 3 – Page #22 “Ambrosius’ Christmas 1°”?
Welp, that was supposed to be a more subtle change but since I’m cutting content like crazy to finish this chapter as soon as possible, it was made in a single page. Basically, after his sister goes to her friend’s house to spend christmas (Not really), Amby finds himself living his deepest fear, being completely alone. What a fag!
Finally but more importantly, I’m not ashamed to admit that I’m a HUGE fan of the anime/manga “The devil is a part timer” to the point of watching the anime over 7 times already. So it’s only logic that Amby would be influenced in some ways by the main character of that show Maou!
Here’s a quick table made in MS Paint that shows some of the ways they’re similar:
I really recommend you to check the anime, its unironically kino!
And that’s all for this blog post! Thanks a lot for reading it and the comic! I’m very sorry about the lack of comic updates lately, I’m going through some personal stuff but everything will get back to normal very soon!
I don’t know what the next blog post could be about so if you have any suggestions please post it in the comments.
